This sleepy eyed, coffee-in-hand gal rocked every moment of this morning shoot. Natural light from the overcast day poured through the windows, creating the most inviting environment a photographer could ask for.
For the curious minds out there: This beauty is showing off a knitted shawl from Alpaca Hill Fiber Farm. Also, how can anyone wake up looking this good? She's a goddess.

Sometimes, you just need to rip up some jeans, find some woods and put ash all over your wonderfully patient friend's face. And sometimes, you just call that another Friday.
It's been awhile since I've given myself some time to get back to conceptual/stylized shoots that I used to love so very much. So, I can't even tell you the amount of excitement I felt when this lovely lady approached ME. Normally, finding someone to pose for such shots takes a lot of convincing. This was such a treat. It was a two day process. One was spend running around to thrift shops, finding an outfit to match our vision, looking at ridiculous clothes, and eating good food. The next day was spent mastering moody makeup, tearing up jeans, smearing ash on Cheryl’s face and trying our absolute hardest to stop laughing. The sun was shy, hiding behind the grey sweeping clouds. The air was crisp, promising the oncoming of the future winter months. With camera bags packed full, my sketchbook flowing with ideas and my stomach twisting with excitement, I set off to photograph my greatest privilege: the wedding of my oldest friend, and his stunning bride. {You may remember Matt and Kayla from my previous posts highlighting their proposal (which still steal my heart) and engagement photographs.}
My day began by meeting the boys, who were unbelievably relaxed considering the events that were about to take place. After a casual brunch, a few jokes and a speedy change of outfits - we were out the door to grab a few shots before the big events. After leaving the guys, it was the girls’ turn. Upon arriving, it was obvious that they were showing their enthusiasm a bit more on on the surface than the groomsmen had. There was a lot of hustle and bustle, creating by a whirlwind of excitement and nerves. To add to all of this, while Kayla was putting on her final touches, it began to snow outside. It was the first snowfall of the year, and perfectly timed considering Kayla’s love for it. Sadly, it only lasted long enough to say a short hello and had stopped by the time the bridesmaids and I set off to the church. Family and friends gathered, chatted and took their seats. Kayla (and Matt), the volunteers of the church, family and friends showed off their talent in the decorating of Keswick Baptist Church. There wasn’t a single spot that hadn’t been thought of. After the short, but incredibly sweet ceremony, the family and wedding party decided it would be best to take the family photos inside. Once those were done, it was time to run away with the awesome newlyweds, brave the cold and enjoy some time away from the crowd. We went to Johnny Apple Seed Orchard (the same location we shot their engagement pictures at) and took shelter in one of the barns. The light flooded beautifully through the open barn doors, and I was in heaven. The rain stopped for a few moments, and we ventured outside to grab a handful of pictures before heading back to the church. The reception began upon our arrival. In the many years I’ve attended this church, I’ve never seen the gym look better! My jaw dropped as I walked through those doors and saw the twinkling lights, pallets and stunning centrepieces. It was so romantic, and intimate. It was perfect. Laughter rang through the gym, love could be seen and felt and I do believe at least a few tears (of both laughter, and memories) were shed over a beautiful slideshow put together by the grooms’ sister. Not long after the cake was cut and served by the bride and groom to their guests, they were off to start their honeymoon and begin the biggest adventure of their lives - together. A long, long time ago, two little toddler girls went to their brothers' soccer game. While their brothers' kicked the ball around, they began to play together. Those two little girls were called Meghan and Kaleigh and remained friends for years to come!
Then one day, Meghan contacted me about a wedding and engagement package, and I was ecstatic for her! Sadly, after talking for awhile we realized I wouldn't be able to photograph her wedding... because she was getting married that day after me! At the same venue! How cool is that? Life has changed a lot since running around playgrounds together, but I was honoured still be able to take Meghan and Alex's engagement photos this fall! Congratulations you two, and it was great to meet you, Alex! On Thanksgiving Sunday (thanks to a wonderfully understanding man) I met Matt and Caity at the closed-for-the-day Merrithew family orchard. The grounds were wet, the temperatures were falling and the sky was overcast grey - also known as my favourite kind of day. Caity had surprised Matt with a photoshoot for his birthday and to celebrate their anniversary, and boy did he make the best of it. The entire afternoon was spent striking ridiculous poses, feeding cows, sharing funny but slightly embarrassing stories and capturing a lot of whole-hearted laughs.
Below are a few of my favourite shots of the days (excluding my favourite of the crazy poses that no one else would understand, of course). |
